Random thoughts this week

The movie Sinners has killed it in the box office and I know people that have now seen it 4+ times IN THEATERS. Do y'all think that Sinners has the record for the movie viewed most by people multiple times in theaters?

Keith Lee is coming to Charlotte

The popular online food reviewer is coming soon

Last night Keith Lee announced on Tiktok that he will be bringing his food tour to explore the Carolinas. He will be potentially exploring Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Asheville, Greenville, Greensboro, and more. Each of his videos average millions of views and garner tons of attention to local restaurants. Let's see where he ends up going!

Beyond The Plate

Leluia Hall Media Event

This past week I got to check out a preview of one of Charlotte's most anticipated restaurant openings - Leluia Hall. This is in a former historic church and it was fun to catch up with some of the OG Charlotte creators and media who I haven't seen in a while. Dish that stood out: The Fish Sticks!

Kendrick Lamar & SZA

Their tour stop happened this past weekend in Charlotte

This past weekend on a rainy day in Charlotte, Kendrick and SZA headlined a packed out Bank of America stadium. The show was amazing despite the weather and the atmosphere was electric all night (no pun intended). Also, for outdoor events at Bank of America Stadium, I highly recommend getting Club seats (300s section - rows 17+ are covered) so you never have to worry about the weather.

The Halal Guys

Quick Thoughts

I finally made it over to try The Halal Guys in South End. There was a lot of hype around this opening late last year, but I personally try to give places a few months to work out the kinks before trying. Needless to say, maybe they still need a few more months. The flavor was lacking, rice overcooked, and the falafel was burned. The Baklava Cheesecake was good though. This is one of the most popular NYC Halal Street food spots so maybe there is a disconnect between the original and the franchise locations, but let me know your thoughts if you've tried it!

Pineapple Spears

This has been one of my favorite snacks

These pineapple spears in coconut water can be found at Aldi (Walmart also has something similar) and they are delish. I posted this on my stories and a few people recommended to put Kool-Aid in them as well so I'll be trying that and reporting back!

Pop-Tarts Ice Cream Sandwiches

Viral snack find of the week

Pop-Tarts has just released their new ice cream sandwiches which have taken the internet by storm. I haven't been able to find them yet as all the Wal-Marts near me are sold out, but if you find them please let me know!

Mason's Lobster Roll

A new fast casual lobster roll spot is now open in Charlotte

Mason's Lobster Rolls opened last week and had a very busy opening thanks to a few viral videos in Charlotte. I was invited to try it as well and it's definitely a good spot for just a fast casual lobster roll($21.50). Nothing too crazy, but it will get the job done. They also have both shrimp($15) and crab ($18) rolls as well and of all the items I think the warm crab roll would be my favorite. I also tried the lobster bisque which wasn't my favorite so I'd likely skip that on the next go. This franchise location is Black woman owned which is amazing. I'll be back.
